We’ve got a Neighbourhood Planning live chat here in this thread on Monday 14 December at 12.30pm
Join us here to catch up with the team and find out more about what other groups have been up to, get expert advice with any issues you might have and share your successes with others!
This is also a great opportunity for Neighbourhood Planning Champions to find out more about the residentials planned next year and to let us know about any particular themes or topics that you’d like to see covered as part of those events.
It’s going to be a really interesting chat, so we hope you can make it. If you can’t. please feel free to post any questions you might have here and we’ll make sure they get answered either before or during the live chat.
You’ll need to have registered for an account to be able to join in (just follow the link at the top of the page) and if you tick the box below ‘notify me of follow-up replies’ then you’ll find it easier to keep up with the conversation in real time.
Any problems with your account please email email@example.com
Look forward to seeing you all here next week

I am not sure I can make the Live chat but would like to ask a question… we have been told that we cannot make a neighbuorhood plan for our area as it is under a Local Authority Master plan. Another person has told us this is incorrect. We can make a NP for the area. Can you tell me which is correct?
Thank you Leslie

I’m Emma, working on the Neighbourhood planning programme at Locality.
You can indeed make a plan for your neighbourhood plan when there is a local authority plan in place. The government guidance is quite clear on this. Do you want to drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org or give me a ring on 07595 068019 and we can discuss this in more detail.

Really looking forward to the Web Chat today at 12.30, and hoping to hear from Neighbourhood Planning Champions about what they would like to see in the forthcoming residentials in March.

Gemma, when you say “live chat”….is that just posting in this thread? No fancy chart software or phone in? I am working but if that’s all it is I will try to time a break for lunch with looking in.
If I don’t manage to look in and anyone is interested in how we did our NP (which was adopted last month) and the documents its on the Parish Council website http://www.gnosallparishcouncil.org.uk/. I should clarify that I’m not a Parish Councillor, I am a local resident volunteer who chaired the NP Working Group which produced the plan (helped by the fact that I’m a chartered town planner….)December 14, 2015 at 12:02 pm #12066
It is posting in this thread, but between those times you’ll get real time responses, so it’s more like a chat than having to wait for people to reply to you.
Thanks for leaving details about your experiences – it’s always great when people share their experiences.
Hopefully you’ll be able to join us later – the chats are nice and easy to dip in and out of, but if you’re not able to make it the chat will be available to read through afterwards at a more convenient time.

Just wondering what the benefit of attending the Champions training would be. What sorts of topics will be covered?
DaveDecember 14, 2015 at 12:34 pm #12068
Hi all, it’s Carole and Emma from the Neighbourhood planning team at Locality here. We’re ready to answer any questions you may have and really interested to hear any ideas from Neighbourhood planning champions about what they would find useful at the residential events we’re running in March
EmmaDecember 14, 2015 at 12:46 pm #12069
Locality are currently working with DCLG to deliver some residential training for Neighbourhood Planning Champions. These will be held in March 2016 (9-10th in Sheffield and 15-16th Bristol/Reading area TBC).
The aim of the residentials is to connect people working closely on Neighbourhood Planning, or those with a specialist interest to build a strong network across the country.
The full content of the training is under development, but sessions may include:
How to use the media, including Social Media
How to implement your Neighbourhood Plan
Working with Developers
Potential sources of income for NP
Working with Local Authorities
Implications of the Housing Act, including Permission in Principle and Starter Homes.
We are really keen to hear from new and established Champions about what they would really benefit from, and hopefully we can develop the agenda to meet their needs.
I hope that answers your question,
Head of Neighbourhoods and Housing

Hi is anything planned for the North East area?
We have a lot of NPs at various stages here in Northumberland.

Hi, are you guys also active on the NP group on LinkedIn? I’m guessing “Emma” is the same “Emma” who has posted on there recently about a starter toollkit? That was a good source of info and discussion when we were doing our NP over the last couple of years, but it seems to have gone quite so it may be worth signposting this forum on there?.December 14, 2015 at 12:56 pm #12072
We’re confirming venues but there will definitely be an event in the North, 9th – 10th March. At the moment it looks like Sheffield. These events are very much designed for Neighbourhood planning champions and will cover the topics Carole has just outlined.
EmmaDecember 14, 2015 at 12:59 pm #12073
I am indeed the same Emma! I’ve always found the linkedin discussion group really useful as it attracts both professionals and community members. I think it’s definitely worth signposting this forum from the linkedin group page. We will arrange.
