    Hello Everyone,

On 29 February we will be running a Champions Online Masterclass Day here in this thread, and we’d love it if you could join us!

Throughout the day, representatives from the programmes will be live online, ready to take any questions and to share the latest news and toolkits linked to the community rights programme.

If there are any topics that you’d especially like to see covered on the day, please let us know and we’ll aim to line up an expert to answer any questions – email your suggestions to communications@cdf.org.uk

    More details to follow shortly.

    Hi Dick,

Sorry you won’t be able to join us – remember that you can log in and catch up on the day in this thread when you’re back in touch with your gadgets!

If there is anything that you think would be useful to see covered feel free to let us know and we’ll see what we can do. It’s pretty flexible at the moment so any ideas are welcome.

    Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the Champions Masterclass day on Just Act!

Colleagues from Locality and CDF, as well as staff from the programmes will be online today until 4pm to answer any questions you might have and to provide lots of helpful information and advice on different topics.

We’d love to hear from as many of you as possible, so introduce yourselves and let us know what you’re up to and what you’d like to know more about!
There will be a CED live chat over in the Just Act live discussions thread from 12.30-1.30 and Jeremy from the advice line will be live from 2-3pm to answer your questions and tell us more about how you can get the information you need.

Looking forward to chatting with you all – any problems with the forum please email communications@cdf.org.uk

Good morning everyone. I’m Lydia, the Communications Manager at Locality. Have you heard about our National My Community Network event in Birmingham on Thursday 24 March?

It’ll be a great place to meet groups involved in similar community projects around the country and to chat to our partners for advice and tips for taking projects forward. 100 attendees came to our first event last October. We’re hoping to see lots of Champions at the event – we know that groups just starting out find it so useful to talk to you about your experiences – so please join us if you can.

Booking details are on the Local Government Associations website here: https://lgaevents.local.gov.uk/lga/frontend/reg/thome.csp?pageID=56741&eventID=194&traceRedir=2&eventID=194

Thanks Lydia, really looking forward to the event!

This is probably a good time to mention that DCLG is also offering to help up to 10 My Community Champions gain local media coverage for their community projects. The mobilisation team is keen to raise the profile of community rights and their positive impact on communities, and is developing a press campaign to get some stories placed in local media over the next couple of months.

This is a great opportunity to gain some exposure for your community. If you’ve got a great community story to tell and would like to know more please contact Albert Joyce (albert.joyce@communities.gsi.gov.uk)

    Thanks Bec.

Are there any specific sites or accounts that people should visit or follow to make sure they’re up to date with all the latest news?

    Hi everyone,

My name’s Amarni and I’m the Communications and Media Assistant at Locality. I also help look after the My Community website. We have loads of really useful resources available which you mind find helpful. There’s everything from how to get started when financing a project, to specific detail on how projects can effectively work with their community. We also have some handy Kits for some of our key areas – http://mycommunity.org.uk/get-inspired-resources/.

Happy to answer any questions you may have!

    Hi Armani,

Are there any ‘How To’ guides available for getting involved with any communications-related activity. For example, is there any guidance on how to write a press release?

    Thanks
    Gemma

Great question, and the answer is yes! We have a Communications and Marketing Kit here – http://mycommunity.org.uk/resources/communications-marketing-toolkit/. This Kit is a collection of communications and marketing guides and materials to help in promoting projects.

Within the Kit is also a Press Toolkit http://mycommunity.org.uk/resources/my-community-press-toolkit/ this has information on how to – write a press release, build support on social media, speak to the Media, and there’s also a handy press release template which also includes how to reference My Community.

    Hope that’s helpful!

    Thanks,
    Amarni
