Great advice Rebecca, really good to have you here.
Could you share what sort of project you’re running? How did you know that people in the area wanted it, and how did you show that to the funder?
I run a youth group which acts as a ‘follow-on’ to a children’s club in the area. I also volunteer for the children’s club so was able to share feedback from parents whose children were going into high school. The funder had a list of priorities for the area and we met about half of them: reducing anti-social bahaviour, developing community spirit etc. One of the aims of the project is that young people are mentored to volunteer for other projects so the process is quite cyclical, which I think helped.
The funding panel were all people who either live or work in the local area so I think maybe I got away without having to include so much detail, as many of the issues are not hidden to locals!
