I am trying to look ahead Nicky and be positive that we will attract volunteers once the needs have been identified. I therefore see our group’s focus changing to be one of supporting volunteers to keep them feeling valued and motivated. Is there any evidence about what sort of things work for this?
The number one suggestion I would make to keep volunteers involved in the longterm is BE FLEXIBLE.
With busy schedules, careers, changing interests and passions. It’s very, very difficult to ask volunteers to commit to a role for over six months. Instead, while you’re thinking about the type of roles you want to recruit, think about creating one-off volunteering opportunities or flexible roles to suit different availabilities. Maybe organise a few one-off events to get the community engaged in a low commitment way?
