Step 9 – Connect with others

Once you have run a project, or created an organisation, there are many ways that you can develop and expand.

Partnerships with local groups and businesses

In your area there may be a well-established network of charities and community groups which you could learn from and collaborate with on your own project. If you haven’t already come across other groups, some of the ideas in Step 1 might be useful, such as finding your local CVS or contacting your local council.

You may well find opportunities to partner with other community groups in your area on new projects or services.  

If you already work with other local groups, have you explored partnerships with local businesses? There are a number of ways your community project could benefit, such as:

• Requesting in-kind donations (such as books or tools)
• Hosting a corporate volunteer day
• Asking for pro-bono support (such as legal, financial or communications advice)
• Enquiring about the availability of their premises for meeting and events space (particularly local supermarkets, pubs and cafes)

Join a national network

There are plenty of membership organisations for community groups and charities which can keep you informed and connected with other groups doing similar activities across the country.

They will often also offer member benefits to save you money on essential purchases for your group – take a look at the resources below for the range of membership offers available.
