Discover the My Community Network

Charlotte StuffinsCDF’s Communications Manager, Charlotte Stuffins, shares what you can expect from the My Community Network which launches next Wednesday, 1 April here on Just Act. This blog was originally published on MyCommunity.org.uk – view the original post here

What is the My Community Network?

The My Community Network launches on 1 April 2015 and will be the place where anyone involved in their community can chat to experts, access support and get in touch with others who are passionate about their community. It complements the My Community support by providing a space for people to access support and guidance every step of the way, whether you’re just starting out on your first project or have experience and tips to share with others.

It has been set up to provide like-minded people with the opportunity to share their experiences and learn from each other, regardless of their background, professional skills or experience. Anyone can get involved, you don’t need to be a professional – all you need is to be involved in a community project and access to a computer to sign up.

Who will be part of the Network?

One of the most exciting things about the My Community Network is that it will bring together all the key players in communities, so that members can learn from each other and work together to achieve even more community successes. So this would include local authorities, infrastructure organisations, or town and parish councils.

A core feature of the My Community Network is an online forum, hosted here on Just Act, which you can sign up to and use to get in touch with other people involved with similar work. Here you’ll be able to ask questions and join in live discussions. We plan to get lots of people can get involved so you’ll have the chance to connect with people from a huge range of experiences and backgrounds; from individuals just starting out to professionals sharing their advice and tips about how to take on the Community Rights.

What can I expect from the Network?

As well as using our forum,  My Community Network members will also receive invitations to free learning hub sessions in their area and the opportunity to attend national networking events. And it will also be the place where My Community Champions will offer mentoring and support – look out for more details on this soon.

How do I sign up?

So, if you’re interested in finding out more and getting involved, joining the My Community Network is simple – you just need to create an account on here on Just Act. To sign up register for an account – it only takes a couple of minutes.

Or if you have applied for support, such as a grant or advice, through My Community for things like your Neighbourhood Plan, you will receive a log-in to Just Act so you can join in.

I have some questions – where should I go?

On Wednesday 1 April there will be a live Q&A session in our forum where you can find out about the launch of the My Community Support and Network. This will be a brilliant opportunity to find out more about the Network, with questions being answered by programme staff, community professionals and perhaps even some previous programme participants. The discussion kicks off from 10am so if you can make it, it would be great to chat with you.
